We are relieved to see that another Bolsonaro will not take power in Brazil. But only grassroots action can address the deeper issues at play. “If Bolsonaro wins, they kill us—if Lula wins, they let us die.”

FediHire, pls boost boost

I've been avoiding it for a while, but...

I need a job. I have experience in software development, having worked for a company in prior years, and have been invested in software and computer architecture since middle school.

I've worked closely with hardware both in hobby projects and professionally, including involvement with product design and logistical challenges. I have made minor contributions to open-source dependencies of those projects. I've used Rust, Python, C, and Bash (incl. coreutils).

I've helped teach software to high school students involved in robotics (of which I am an alum), which involved similar challenges. Design, electrical wiring, real-time software, event-loops, OOP in C++ and Java.

I'm looking
primarily for remote work with an organization which prioritizes people above profit. I can provide resume/more details upon request. if you or your company are looking for a software dev, I'd be more than happy to help.

electoralism panic, white liberals weaponising guilt, antiblackness

So there is a user I already had blocked on my main account for note: "queer white bigot, participates in antiblack harassment". That unfortunately isn't that noteworthy alone on here. But on my after dark account a mutual boosted a post they made trying to guilt-trip people who refuse to vote, to vote for them. A really lengthy and emotional appeal, trying to make themselves a super duper victim for being transgender woman. So like, where's all that emotion for black folks, you fucking scumbag?

Anyways, that about summarizes who is out there thinking voting is everything and guilting everbody over it, I feel. Also a good example of why I have a no tolerance policy for this shit. If you can't accept that I can help the world in an uncontrolled manner and see me as dead weight because of propaganda then fuck off, I know red flags when I see them.

AMAZING the way we build the anti-twitter platform just to behave like twitter users in the anti-twitter space

just like the AMAZING way everyone has migrated over to Lemmy just to behave like Redditors in the anti-Reddit space

change of venue is not magical. we have picked up bad habits, we have learned toxic attitudes and assumptions, and when we fail to challenge those bad habits and toxic attitudes/assumptions, we are wasting this opportunity to build something better - we waste the time and effort of the techies who develop these spaces.

the technical features cannot fix our attitudes. we have to do it, each of us and all of us. computers can’t reflect. we can but we’re not. this is not good.

I have forked the #haskell magic library after a new maintainer gummed it all up with LLM slop

Compare the LLM generated code with my code. These 77 and 4 lines of code do essentially the same thing, except mine is twice as fast, avoids ifdefs, and doesn't have large nonsense comment blocks about encodings.

https://git.joeyh.name/index.cgi/haskell-libmagic.git/tree/Magic/Operations.hsc#n46

https://github.com/philippedev101/magic-haskell/blob/f52a3628626644d68e1cd1d2c36e98f78693bda5/src/Magic/Internal.hs#L157

In the LLMs's defense, my code contains the first use of System.OsString.coercionToPlatformTypes that I can find on the internet, so it had nothing to steal the good way to do it from.

The main struggle of liking YTP since people started doing it is that now I have stims and when people ask where they came from, I have to explain that it's from a thing that is bad and I don't want to show them.

Like I cannot help but say "The bleeding, the bleeding, the furaffinity! He never bleeds! Have you ever noticed this cat!" Yet I cannot share.

@Somarasu I got one secondhand for free once. They are designed to be pretty to look at, and basically be an advert for themselves via a distinct look and a prominent logo. So you see streamers with them because it is given for free or at discount to be an advertisement in the stream setup whenever they stand up.

They aren't actually comfortable or easy to use compared to a normal desk chair from an office store though. If anything, they are often really uncomfortable, and have issues fitting under desks, because of the weird gimmick shapes and armrests. They exist more to stand out than to be practical.
